Comic Book Review: New Challengers #1

New Challengers #1 looks like it's heading in the right direction to capture the essence of the original Challengers of the Unknown while updating it for a new generation. Writers Scott Snyder and Aaron Gillespie craft an intriguing tale to capture reader's attentions and hook them for the long haul. Andy Kubert's pristine artwork adds the visual stimulation one would expect a tantalizing title like New Challengers would demand. Snyder and Gillespie give us an air of mystery and intrigue while beginning to establish each of the characteristics of the members of the New Challengers.

In New Challengers #1, five misfit strangers are given a second chance at life, but only if they obey the orders of the mysterious Professor and execute deadly missions in the most unexplored corners of the multiverse! And if the new Challengers of the Unknown fail… it will be more than just their own lives that hang in the balance.

New Challengers #1 is written by Scott Snyder (Dark Nights: Metal) and Aaron Gillespie (Green Lanterns). Artwork is provided by Andy Kubert (Dark Knight III: The Master Race) with colors by Klaus Janson (The Dark Knight Returns). It's 32 pages long and was released on May 16th, 2018.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
