Yeah, so I'm late to the party. I have a two-year-old and family who needs me more than film fans do. Here you go:
Equal parts Jurassic Park and The Old Dark House, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a game changer that will forever steer the franchise in a new direction. Shot unlike any other entry in the series, there's a horror flare that is both claustrophobic at times and spacious at others. While it is injected with some humor, there is an air of tension and drama as the characters deal with subjects of morality and mortality while on the run from man-eating monsters.
The musical score for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom brings to mind gothic haunted house horror classics blended with the bombastic crescendos of John Williams' familiar beats, while the sound effects are just as menacing and dread-inducing as you remember upon seeing the glass of water shimmer in the original. It's very hard to tell where the practical effects stop and the CGI begins when it comes to both the backgrounds and dinosaurs. Other than the fact that we don't get to see enough from Jeff Goldblum, we're really treated to a talented ensemble of actors who scream and die quite well after unfortunately crossing paths with any number of dinosaurs.
Three years after the destruction of the Jurassic World theme park, Owen Grady and Claire Dearing return to the island of Isla Nublar to save the remaining dinosaurs from a volcano that's about to erupt. They soon encounter terrifying new breeds of gigantic dinosaurs, while uncovering a conspiracy that threatens the entire planet in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is directed by J.A. Bayona from a screenplay by Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow. It stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rafe Spall, James Cromwell, Isabella Sermon, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, and B.D. Wong. The movie is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of science-fiction violence and peril and runs 128 minutes. It should be noted there is some profanity as well.
