Stream of Conscious Review: Young Justice #1

DC Comics brings back their Young Justice title just in time to give readers something to get excited about before the launch of the new season of the popular television show. Each of the seven members of the teen team get their chance to shine as their latest adventure unfolds. Of course, the danger that lies ahead for humankind is catastrophic and we'll need all hands on deck to save the world.

Brian Michael Bendis gets intergalactic in the first issue and introduces us to the otherworldly threat our heroes are up against in the first few pages of the issue. Alejandro Sanchez's coloring wonderfully accentuates Patrick Gleason's artwork, giving it an upbeat and pleasant palette to look at.

I enjoyed Young Justice #1, even though I wouldn't necessarily call it anything revolutionary in the grand scheme of comic book history. It's your typical tale revolving around bad guys coming to Earth and the superheroes having to pool together to defeat them. However, it works here and will no doubt grab readers who love following the adventures and charisma of DC's youthful crime fighters.

Each member of Young Justice brings something different to the table. They all have their own strengths and work together to defeat their foe. They have their own personalities, which readers will identify with and latch on to. Some might have an issue with the gender balance of the team. When it's all said and done, it looks as if there will be four guys and three girls.

Young Justice #1 is available now in print and digital versions.
